HOW-DEE!!!

At the end of last week, Thursday to be exact, my dad, Mike Brown, pulled in into the littleGrasse driveway. As soon as i saw him pull in I sprinted over to see him. I was so excited that he was here in the North Country on New York, and ironically he came from the North Woods of Wisconsin.

Friday was a typical work day for me in the morning then the rest of the day my dad and I got to be together. I took him into town for lunch and we split a can of a healthier version of Pringles and a Bagel BLT. After lunch we went to the dollar store to get some things for my cabin.

Saturday began as my normal Saturday of working until others showed up but this time my dad came to help out. He became so good at scuffling, a form of weeding where one uses a scuffle hoe to disturb the soil and prevent weed growth, that he got a blister. After scuffling the group laid mulch down so that Bob, Flip, and I won’t have to constantly weed while the plants can still thrive.

After my work day, my dad and I talk about dinner plans and I had planned dinner at a Mexican restaurant that I had frequented a couple of times with the SLU ski team. But my dad, best the greatest and a keen understanding, allowed me and my friend to go to dinner and he have dinner solo. I felt bad not including him with dinner but it was so fun to catch up with my friend Faith, a friend from school who is staying on campus this summer. We met freshman year at the President’s house for a BBQ. After dinner, I drove to Walmart, sadly not Target (family bias), and got some goodies for Father’s Day. It was so fun to spend a couple of hours with her I hope we can do it again soon.

On Sunday, Father’s Day, I gave my dad a bag of goodies that I brought with my friend Faith. I gave him that, then I took my leftovers from last night and scrambled them up into breakfast of scrambled eggs and enchiladas.

After breakfast, we walked over to where Bob has his canoe shed, and we took out the canoe. I should have started my watch but didn’t till after my dad and I turned around to face the correct direction on the canoe. Leading up to that point, we couldn’t paddle straight to save our skins.

Facing the correct way now, with me in the stern and my dad at the bow, we were paddling like professional voice actors. (one of my dad’s catch phrases) We began our paddling adventure just a little bit up river from Taylor’s park continued our journey up the Grasse River for about an hour. We found these about 10 little islands and for fun and to test my skills decided to slaloms around these islands.

While I was paddling with my dad, I felt like the scene from The Lord of the Rings when Boromir, Aragon, and Legolas were paddling the canoes with the hobbits and Gimli in the front of the boats as they paddled in between the Argonath statues in the first Lord of the Rings film. The Argonath are two statues that are old kings of Gondor. If you don’t know what I am talking about, just enjoy a lord of the rings movie marathon!!

After a successful canoe trip, we relaxed for a while then headed to Potsdam to get lunch at a diner. As soon as we walked in the Canadian Formula 1 race was on so we asked the hostess to be seated in front of the television. So we ordered food and stayed longer just to watch the race. When we entered the restaurant, we were at one of maybe five tables, and when we left there were maybe three tables.

Then we had a lazy afternoon evening and had Progresso soup for dinner as we planned out two days to Vermont!! Heading back to the Mad River Valley, my second home. I will write a blog post about our two days in VT. I love VT a ton.

Happy trails
